About Bulgaria
Bulgaria joined the E.U. on the 1st of January 2007.
According to the regular European Commission reports on Bulgaria's progress toward accession, the country meets the political criteria adopted in Copenhagen and has established a functioning market economy; the E.U. has recognised Bulgaria's role as a factor of peace and stability in Southeast Europe.
The Commission report for 2003 emphasized that Bulgria's economy will be capable in the near future to manage any competitive pressure and E.U. market alignments.
