Q: Is there a crime problem?
A: Having being involved for over 3 years and spent a lot of time in Bulgaria during this period, we can state that we witnessed absolutely nothing criminal taking place, we witnessed no riotous unruly behaviour at night time or in bars or clubs. The usual care of oneself and ones belongings should be taken. We have experienced no thefts or malicious damage to our properties.
Q: Are there Irish theme pubs in the resort?
A: Yes, of course, several of them.
Q: What are the Bulgarian people like?
A: The ordinary Bulgarian male and female we have found to be very friendly and helpful, they are proud people, who may not be that well off but take a pride in their appearance and their manner. In business we would advise caution and the use of a solicitor of repute before engaging in any dealings directly with Bulgarian business people.
Q: What are the main religions?
A: The Orthodox Church is the predominant religion at approx 81% of the population, after this the Catholic Church would number 8% - 10% of the population, with the remainder made up of small minority religions such as Muslims, Protestants and Jews.
Q: What is the VAT rate in Bulgaria?
A: 20%
Q: What is the Capital Gains Tax in Bulgaria?
A: If sold within 5 years of purchase 15% of the profit margin. No Capital Gains Tax is charged in Bulgaria if owned and disposed of after 5 years.
Q: Is there a double taxation agreement in place between Bulgaria and Ireland?
A: Yes, there is and this can be viewed on www.revenue.ie
Q: Are there mosquitoes?
A: Yes as in all sun resorts, usual creams and sprays should be used by those susceptible.
